Born in Rotterdam in 1962, Dutch-Surinamese artist Andra Daans brings her background in Fashion and Monumental Art. 

She studied at the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague, and her studies in drawing the nude at the Free Academy of Fine Arts in Rome, into her distinctive painting practice. Though trained outside of painting, she discovered oil on linen as her true medium of expression, developing a style that blends grisaille with vibrant patterns and symbolism.

Her work often portrays children, exploring themes of resilience, identity, and cultural heritage. Deeply rooted in her Dutch-Surinamese background, her paintings serve as bridges between cultures, inviting viewers to reflect on beauty, struggle, and our shared humanity.

Daans has exhibited internationally since the 1980s, with her work held in private collections across Europe and the United States. Today, she continues to push her practice forward, using art as a vehicle for empathy, storytelling, and social change.
